Hello to those who have taken the time to get to know me. Thank you for visiting my site. I hope you have found something special here.
I fell in love with stones and the beauty of nature when I was a child. When walking along the beach, I would notice the way sunlight would hit a pebble drawing me to investigate. I would pick it up, observe every speck and come home with pockets overflowing.
As I grew older and discovered jewellery, my passion grew to include silver. It is my favourite metal, and the only one that I wear and use because I feel that it looks great on all skin tones. It also compliments all other elements in my designs. Combining the natural colours and healing properties of various stones and crystals, with the versatility of working with silver, I create one-of-a-kind pieces that illustrate the beauty of the natural world and my inspirations.
When I design a piece of jewellery art, my approach can best be described as organic. For me, the process of taking a simple piece of silver and sculpting it to create truly original elements, fills me with an immense sense of wonder and accomplishment. While my pieces may begin with a general idea or concept, frequently the end product is quite different. The use of more conventional techniques has been important in the evolution of my work as well. My continuing formal education includes courses in metal smithing, art clay silver and fusing. Overall, my inspiration comes from the shapes and colours of nature. The shapes that I am attracted to, tend to be ones with soft or rounded features such as pear, teardrop and leaves which are exemplified throughout my designs.
I hope you find that special piece that you just can't live without.
A Brief Description Of The Process I Use To Create My Jewellery
I use two types of silver:
92.5% Sterling Silver: I purchase it in sheets and wire. I create shapes by sawing, hammering, filing and polishing. I also wire wrap stones to create unique designs.
99.9% Fine Silver: I purchase it in wire and art clay silver. I fuse the wire together with a torch, I then bend to shape, hammer, tumble and hand polish it. I make chain and connectors this way.
Art Clay Silver: I have created my own molds which I press into the clay to create unique textures. I then cut it into shapes, file, kiln fire, tumble, and hand polish. I make pendants, connectors and earrings.
New for 2011: Silver Elements : I use a process called lost wax casting. I create designs handcarved from wax then use a plaster burn out and cast the designs in sterling silver. Once they are cast, I then polish them to finish. I’m working on a new line which will debut this summer.
I use high quality semi-precious stones, fresh water pearls, and crystals from local suppliers in my designs which are hand selected by me.
